As China fights Tesla, U.S. on EVs, Hungary is key

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD delivered its first batch of EVs to customers in Hungary last week. The company called it “a new chapter in developing the Central and Eastern European market.”

The milestone comes as Chinese EV and battery companies have invested billions of euros in Hungary to build production facilities there.

Hungary — a member of the European Union and NATO — has become a key hub for Chinese EV makers’ push to grow exports in Europe and expand their market presence worldwide. Europe currently accounts for one-third of China’s total EV exports, which…
